NAKHEEL SIGNS CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR DEIRA MALL WITH A TOTAL INVESTMENT OF 6.1 BILLION AED

Master developer Nakheel today signed a construction contract to build Deira Mall, Dubai's largest shopping, dining and entertainment center, in terms of total retail space.

Nakheel appointed United Engineering Construction LLC to set up the mall with a contract worth 4.2 billion AED. Construction will start in the third quarter this year and will be completed in 2020.

Deira Mall, with a leasable area of   four million square meters, will be the largest in Dubai in terms of shop space.

In an area of   four million square meters where vibration compaction continues, Nakheel will be located in the center of Deira Islands, a new 15.3 square meter coastal city that is part of Dubai's 2021 vision. The four-island development, which will traditionally turn the region known as 'Old Dubai' into a world-class retail, tourism, life and entertainment center, will host more than 250,000 people when it is completed.

Deira Mall, with a total construction area of   10.3 million square meters, including a 8.400 square meter 3.8 million square meter multi-storey car park, will host more than 1,000 shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues on three floors. State-of-the-art development will have a retractable roof and bring natural light to the complex and allow outdoor shopping in the cooler months.

Deira Mall will be the center of Deira Boulevard, a new AED5 billion Nakheel community, with 16 residential towers, nearly 3,000 apartments and a large retail, restaurant and relaxation area. There will be a 4.5 million square meter shop area in Deira Shopping Center and Boulevard. A construction tender for Deira Boulevard was announced in January this year.

Deira Shopping Center is one of the two large-scale retail projects of Nakheel Shopping Centers in the Deira Islands. The other, Deira Islands Night Souk, will be the world's largest night market, with 5,300 stores and nearly 100 dock cafes and restaurants. Construction continues at full speed with the project expected to be completed in 2018. All units in the Night Bazaar are fully rented.
